Update on my new job, taken from various email updates to friends:
forgot how nice it can be to work for a smaller company. The place is really quiet, but the people are very friendly. You can tell that they are happy with their employment. Free stuff I've gotten so far: Indevus lunch bag with tupperware; Indevus leather briefcase/satchel/laptop bag, with leather bound note pad holder; Indevus golf shirt; Indevus water bottle. Not bad for one day's work. They have one of those industrial fridges (double glass doors like you see at restaurants) stocked with soda, sparkling water and juice which is free to employees. Free gym on premises and the cafe is pretty decent, not as nice as Ropes, but good.
My German is still rusty, but it is slowly coming back. My boss speaks to me in German 100% of the time, and I think I understand about 50% of it. Partly because he mumbles a lot. Work wise things are pretty quiet, but that is to be expected until I get into the swing of things. I expect things to start getting crazy busy by next week. I support my boss, Andreas, and his team (4 guys and one woman), but the only phone line I answer is Andreas. Besides having to help with travel for the entire team, it seems like the only person I actually do work for is Andreas. Apparently the company is growing so quickly that people have been shuffled into new offices. According to Andreas, once things settle, I'll be given my own office. Cool eh? I guess the other "executive assistants" or assistants to CEO, etc. have thier own offices. What's next? A blackberry?
Commuting is fantastic. Until we get our second car, I'm dropping kids off at daycare and then Allen at train. On Monday I took the back roads to work. Left home (Allen had day off) at 8:10 and walked into office at 8:35. On Tuesday, I dropped Allen off at train station at 7:20, went through Starbucks drive through and arrived at work at 7:45. I figure once we have a second car, I don't have to leave the house until after 8 or so.
I've also been looking at other daycare options. One of them is in Bedford, which means I could take back roads to work.
At the end of last week I was given a very nice Lands End jacket with the company logo on it. I also found out that the company closes at 4 on Fridays (you can wear jeans), and from Memorial day through Labor day they close at 3 on Fridays.
There is also lots of opportunity to move up in the company. In fact, I am headed to a two day conference at the beginning of June. So far so good. Let's hope it continues
Sounds like a great job. Where is it and what are you doing there?
