Saturday, August 2, 2008 we hosted Lorelei's Birthday! This year she realized that it was all about her! She woke up early and couldn't wait to open presents and play with friends and ...CAKE! A whole cake, just for her! "Can I have it now?" was heard all day! We had everyone come to our house. We served birthday cake, fruit salad, pasta salad, green salad, birthday cake, bacon cheese burgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken, birthday cake, ice cream, chips and veggies and dip and have I mentioned birthday CAKE?
If not, let me tell you now that Lorelei wanted her Birthday Cake now. Not later, not in a minute, not after lunch...now. Please thank you ...now works for me. When we served the cake, we had to eat it like a princess. One finger at a time in the frosting. Not so much cake. Lots of frosting.
Friends, Jason and Carson, seemed to agree that the cake was definitely worth eating ...and smearing all around ones face. Alexander agreed and pointed out how much fun it was to drop cake on the floor... such a nice splat sound the frosting made on the hardwood! Presents!
WOW did we get presents! Books, and stuffed animal superheros, and Tonka trucks and balloons and a red Minnie Mouse purse. A book of superheros and puzzles and her first X-Wing Fighter! (The time was right - every 3 yr old needs to start learning her Star Wars space ships!) Even Alexander got cool stuff! Lots of people were present - the Ropes & Gray contingent was represented, as was DCAM and families of both parental units were in the house. Representatives from Nepal, Cuba and Ireland attended and seemed to enjoy the children - mostly the times when they said - ok, go see your mommy/daddy for that diaper change/bedtime/bath/tantrum... can you blame them? All in all, I think everyone had fun! It was overcast in the low 80's - rain held off until after the party.
Lorelei wanted to bring her purse, balloons, bulldozer and superhero book to bed that night and of course, we let her - although we did turn off the bulldozer! A photo album has been added.
Happy 3rd Birthday Lorelei! August 4!
Love Mommy and Daddy and Alexander
